About Michael Schmidmeister

I am an amateur photographer, born in 1979, living in Switzerland in a town called Wetzikon – about 25 kilometres from Zurich. In everyday life I work in Information Technology for a Swiss bank. (Well, how about that for a cliché.)

I genuinely got serious about my photography in 2015 through my dad – a passionate amateur photographer himself – who inspired me with his pictures and tought me the ropes of photography. Check out his works at as-digimage^↗.

In my spare time and when travelling I take joy in doing photography. Although I generally do not consider myself a very patient person, making pictures is often relaxing and calming and I can easily spend an hour or two in the same spot taking it all in, finding compositions, refining a composition and waiting for the light. I focus on landscape and cityscape photography. For quite some time now I feel myself more and more drawn to landscapes – where I am trying to find my masterpiece shot. ;-)

Awards

In 2022 I started entering in the amateur / non-professional category of photography competitions to see "how I am doing". While photography like any other art form is subjective and its beauty lies in the eye of the beholder, it still feels satisfying when your work is appreciated.
